We decided to take advantage of our Passport America and stay at Apache Wells RV Resort in Mesa rather than the SKP Co-op in Casa Grande. It was a lot closer to Jeff's sister in Phoenix and had several amenities

that I would have liked to take advantage of like the hot tub. Plus with our PA discount, it was only $15 a night. It was really a nice place with an off leash dog run right next to our site

. Some people might not find that a plus, but we did.

There were lots of seasonal people in the park and it was very nicely laid out

in people's yards. As I was walking down the steet the first afternoon, I spied a whole flock of birds gathered around a bird feeder. What really surprised me were the colorful looking ones. I thought maybe they were endemic to the area. We found out that someone had had a pair of peach-faced lovebirds and had died. Their children had let the birds loose. The birds had continued to breed and now there are lots of them about the park. .

There was a HUGE Saguerro cactus in one of the lots

and lots of desert gardens. Next to the dog run was a typical example of the park models that people live in at this resort. It was a good example of where you could live if you ever decide to get off the road and want to live in a temperate climate. That doesn't include the climate we had while there since it was the coldest weather that they had had in nearly twenty years, so the hot tub was definitely out!

While in the Phoenix area, we had a great visit with Jeff's sister Robin. On Saturday night, we drove out to Pinnacle Peak Patio Steakhouse which had been recommended by our Fulltime friends Barb and Dave. It is quite an historic place, lots of celebrities have visited there. Their claims to fame are two - HUGE steaks and if you wear a necktie, they will cut it off. There are literally over a million neckties hung from the ceiling which they have cut off from people through the years. However, I totally forgot to bring the camera, so NO pictures.

The next morning, we went to brunch at Marie Callendar's restaurant which was GREAT! Well worth a return trip when our calorie intake will allow it.

We got Madison groomed in Mesa at a great dog groomers called A Day in Paradise. I needed to get her cut really short as the desert seems to be full of stickers and little tiny grasses that mat up her fur. They did a superb job and for only $20! All in all, except for the cold weather, we really enjoyed our stay in Mesa and will definitely return.
