We left the tour route today to ride to Tara, just South, West of Owen Sound, on route to Guelph for our rest day and visits with our families.
We actually rode a longer route than the tour which was to be 136k so we still tracked with the k’s for the tour.
One route to Tara we rode to a lookout point on the Georgian Bay were Aunt Joyce had set up to BBQ turkey sausages for the entire tour for lunch. The sausages were “Uncle Bucks”, their own label and from their own turkey production and they are amazingly good. The group certainly wolfed back a bunch with most having at least 2 and Joyce also supplied ice tea or water. It just doesn’t get better than this as most days a lot of folks just get by with peanut butter and jam sandwiches! Joyce really spoiled us!
Then after our lunch we rode on to Tara were we arrived around 4pm. The Rier’s, very special friends was our night stop. The whole family was there and it was great to visit with them. They greeted us with cold beer and lots of snacks before serving up a wonderful steak dinner. You know that as we burn over 6000 calories a day that food is important to us but great food is a treat and treated we were.
With another long ride to tomorrow we headed for bed early so we could be up and on the road before 8 AM.
Thanks again to Ben, Sheri, Tyson, Chris, Amy, and Brook for all your hospitality. It was certainly appreciated.
