We stopped at an incredible roadside rest on the way to Benson called Texas Peak

The uplift shown in the stones was really remarkable.

We didn't stay at the SKP park because we heard it was really crowded, so we stopped at the Red Barn RV which is Passport America and even though we had a little traffic noise, it wasn't too bad and was certainly inexpensive.
Our friends Barb and Dave from the class of '06 were staying at St. David - not too far away, so they came and got us and we all went to see Tombstone of the legendary fight at the OK corral. There are only about 3 original buildings and the Birdcage Theatre is one of them. Here we are

and here are Barb and Dave

. The Birdcage is where the song "Only a bird in a gilded cage" originated. The lobby is pretty cool. There are lots of bullet holes in the original bar and a big picture of Little Egypt looks like she has two navels because the cowboys got liquored up one day and began shooting at the picture. The entire tour of the theatre would have cost about $8 each, so we decided to abstain.
Down the street is Big Nose Kate's saloon which is another historical building. We had a lot of fun with getting our pictures made with one of the cowboys in the saloon. Here are Dave and Jeff as two drunken bums (type casting)

and then being strung up

Getting their just desserts |   |
. After the hanging, they both wound up in their coffin (check out the caption)

Then it was the girls turn as you can see

. The cowboy really got into the act

What is going on here? |   |
and then all four of us were photographed

The next picture might be shocking to some as senior citizens go wild

We saw the site of the OK corral, but in order to see the staged gunfight, you had to fork over more coin of the realm. We decided to skip that part too, since we've seen lots of gunfights.

. Tombstone was fun, but very pricey.
Next we went to Boot Hill

|   | Boot Hill |
which is operated by the city of Tombstone - no admission charge, but they do request a donation of $2 which gets you a brochure that describes the graves and is well worth the money. Some of the captions on the gravestones are amazing

and the stories in the brochure add to what you see. Of course everyone wants to see the Clantons' graves.

Tomorrow we head to Phoenix
