We're taking a year off to travel! travel blog

Pennie, Sue, Jan, Karen

Rowland, Don

Alan and Carol

After much holding of the kitty in between laundry, we were off on another adventure. This time we had two objectives. Our first stop was in Beverly Hills to coordinate a visit with Rowland and Pennie, Jan and Sue. We had all been neighbors and close friends when we all lived in Calhan. We were the first to leave when we moved to Pagosa Springs, then Rowland and Pennie when he needed to move to a lower altitude, and finally Jan and Sue when they finally decided to go on the road. It was a great afternoon. Rowland had made a pot of beans which we all shared for lunch. And it was just like old times when the 6 of us got together; we drank wine, ate a meal and laughed a lot about old times.

Then it was time for us to leave, as we were going on to Inglis to visit with my cousin Carol and husband Alan. Carol had dinner ready for us when we arrived, bean soup. We laughed about having beans twice in one day but it was very good.

Since we had visited with them on our last trip to Florida, we did not feel the need to do any sight-seeing the next day. So Carol and I stayed in the house, getting caught up on the doings of all our relatives while Don and Alan worked on Alan's newest sailboat.

Carol fixed a yummy shrimp scampi for dinner that night, with humongous shrimp.

The last day was practically a repeat of the first two. For dinner that night Alan grilled steak tenderloin. Each night we had dessert, with a special cherry pie for Don. And each evening we watched a movie on their home theater screen.

On the way home I had Don stop by the market they used nearby. It was like a little hometown market with an excellent meat department, and I was able to restock my freezer with some of their excellent and very reasonably priced meats.
