Path thru quarry heading into Columbia

Hikers on ridge in Yosemite

Many photo ops roadside Yosemite

Steep road out (we thought our brakes bad but was car in...

Sunset at Man Park

Early morning hike to marble quarry and then to historic town of Columbia. Some original buildings (hotel and theater still functioning) and some recreated but all very interesting. Nothing open yet but bakery so we had breakfast outside there.

Yosemite much farther than appeared on map. Very intense drive up mountain, lots of switchbacks, overlooks, and bicycles on road. Passed thru park gate with Senior Pass. Crowds of tourists from onset. Constant traffic but wonderful views. Parking lots and roadside pull offs full made parking our rig more difficult.

No wildlife seen and burned trees and vegetation was sad. Mostly bolders, rock knobs, and hiking trails. Lake was very popular with tourists swimming with what looked to be cold water. Air was cool and dry (70 degrees) so we were riding with windows open. Delay exiting park due to accident backing up traffic.

Stopped at rest stop outside of back gate of park for sandwiches. Nice break from crowds in park then on toward Tonopah which is halfway between Reno and Las Vegas. Drove thru miles and miles of desert and nothing else. Highway is flat and mostly straight ahead and behind! Overnite at RV Park just coming into town. Woman who checked us in explained park was built to accommodate workers at new solar power plant in town and locals called it the "man park" There are prefab sections of rooms and some duplexes along with the campsites (which is just like a parking lot) But beautiful sunset, nice laundry and showers, and pizza delivery!
