|Sun, 02 Aug: OK, now it's time to head north...
We spent a quiet weekend plugged into Leon's 50 ampere service (we paid him extra for the electricity) working on keeping cool. It was hot and humid and we got a chance to try out our fridge fixes. Thus far it is doing a fine job of keeping its cool.
After feeding ourselves and getting things ready for the road we connected the car and rolled our wheels about 0930. A short distance north on IN 5 to IN 120, which we took west to IN 13. North to the Michigan border where IN 13 becomes US 131. Then west on US 12 to Buchanan and the Bear Cave Thousand Trails. We arrived a few minutes before eleven after traveling 55 miles with an overall fuel economy of seven mpg.
As with far too many Thousand Trails parks they do not keep the trees properly trimmed for large coaches. We were rattling all of our antennae on low hanging trees as we drove along the approach road. Once checked in we found a nice clear site with full hookups, including 50 ampere service. It is not, however, very level and we had to creatively use our stash of lumber to get Carpe on an even keel.
After getting set up we drove Carpe Dinkum (our Ford Focus) into nearby Niles for some fast food lunch and then a Wal*Mart visit to replenish some of our supplies. We're now back home enjoying the air conditioning and catching up on some computer stuff.
Our current plans are to remain here till Thursday or Friday and then head north toward Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The temperatures appear to be cooler there and that appeals to us. That said, however, stand by for a possible Full-Timer's rattle of the map and who knows what'll happen?
Wed, 05 Aug: Change, change, change...
We decided to stay an extra two days. We don't have any pressing plans, and now that we've burned thru our fifty "included" days at Thousand Trails additional days are only $5/day. So, for $10 why not stay in a very nice full hookup site?
We picked up our mail at the Buchanan Post Office. Nothing important, but we thought we'd catch up while we're sitting still for a bit.
We're "outta heah" tomorrow. Heading north to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Hope to continue the cooler weather. Yummy!
