First glimpse of Broome. I'm sure there's more exciting things to come...

(Ben)

A big day of driving today (for us on this trip anyway) - about 600 km, has seen us pull into Broome. We thought we might spend the night about 100 km outside the place and head in here tomorrow, but the combination of getting a nice early start and seeing the car thermometer reading a warm 36 degrees outside, inspired us to push on all the way to the coast. Kind of exciting to have reached the other side of Australia! Though we haven't actually made it down to the beach yet ...

Amazingly in the last 30 minutes or so of driving we saw the thermometer drop to 27 degrees but even though there was a breeze blowing when we hopped out of the car, we were struck by the humidity. Once deciding on the Cable Beach caravan park, where we were given a site backing on to the lovely big pool, we hastily set up camp (though not quick enough for the kids who had their togs on pretty quick smart once their setting up jobs were done) and the kids and I had a swim while Sal read her iBook. Then it was dinner time and bed, with Sal reading the kids a chapter of Prince Caspian. We're working our way through the Narnia series, with Sal and I alternating on the books, and we're up to number four. The kids are really enjoying them.

Looking forward to seeing the beach tomorrow. More on Broome to come ...
