We departed Homolovi State Park on the morning of October 8th heading west to Williams AZ. We arrived at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park and got set up in our paved, back in, full hook up 50 amp site.

..

The morning of the 9th was cold. There was a good hard frost on the windows of the car. We dressed for the colder temps, and brought Bentley over to doggie day care. We had scheduled to take an Inner Canyon Tour which left at 9 a.m. As it turned out, we were the only two on the tour today. and, because it was only two of us, we would be taking the tour with our guide, Chris, in a 4 door Toyota Tundra, not the 14 passenger van . From Williams, we headed west out old route 66 to Peach Springs. Once there, we stopped at a local market for a break, and Chris obtained a permit from the Havapai Indian Reservation to use their land. Permit in hand, we headed north on Indian route 6, a 22 mile long dirt road to diamond creek, and then on to the Colorado River. The sights and scenery along the way was amazing. Chris pointed things out along the way, and stopped when ever we wanted so we could get out and take photo's. Once we arrived at the end of the road at the Colorado River, we had on hour there to have lunch and take more photos. Temps were up in the mid seventies by now, so off came all those extra layers we put on in the morning. On our trip back out, we saw "wild" donkies and a couple of rattlesnakes!! Once back at the RV park, we picked up Bentley. He was very happy to see us and the crew at the kennel said he was an awesome pup all day.!!

..

The morning of the 10th we drove ourselves up to the south rim of the canyon for a look at things from the top. The south rim is about 3000 feet higher in elevation, and we were about 150 miles east/northeast of the diamond creek area in the Havapai Indian Reservation where we were yesterday. Still all part of the Grand Canyon, but oh my, what a different perspective! As we neared the park entrance, traffic had slowed and stopped. As they started again, we saw the reason why. There was a group of 6 or so female elk at the roadside, and then, it was time to stop as one decided to meander across the road just a few feet in front of our car! At the park gate, the ranger gave us another surprise. Since Deb was within 7 days of her birthday, we were able to buy her life time senior America The Beautiful National Parks pass and use that to enter the Park!! We were thrilled now we will save even more on all the National and Federal Recreational lands we will visit over time.

Even though it was a cloudy day, views from the overlooks were spectacular. We took loads of photos but to see in person will simply take your breath away. As evening approached, we needed to head back down to our campground, but there were many trails etc. that could have been explored more.

..

And as quickly as time passes, once again it was time to prepare for another part of our journey. In the morning we will depart Williams and head a bit further south.
