It was a quick 62 miles from Cortez to Monticello through much of the same type of scenery we have been seeing. We are staying at Mountain View RV Park with 50 amp full hookups, cable and decent WiFi though it is a little weak at our site. The big rig sites are in the open so hitting the satellite was easy. It has a variety of sites, some fairly nice, but the big rig sites are very narrow and just long enough for the Mothership with Libby parked across the site. It is a Camp Club and Passport America campground so the price was right.
We went into Canyonlands National Park today, putting about 150 miles on Libby. Access to the lower part of the park (called the Needles district) is available here. The road into the park is about 14 miles North of Monticello and then the visitor center is another 34 miles West of that. We will see the Northern portion (called the Island District) while we are at Dead Horse State Park outside Moab starting tomorrow. We walked three short trails which were very nice and allowed us to earn our hiking badges. :) We even walked one trail which was almost completely on slickrock so they use cairns to mark the trail. That was our first experience with that type of trail.
After coming back out of the park, we went a few miles North and then turned West again for another 22 miles to get to Needles Overlook. There we walked another short trail over the rocks to get magnificent views of Canyonlands from above with the Colorado River snaking through it.
Tomorrow we head for Dead Horse Point State Park just Northwest of Moab. We will be there four days and doubt we will have Verizon at the campground but we'll see.
