The road after the 2.5 mile long tunnel led right to the ferry parking lot and we checked in immediately. Because of that, we didn't have a chance to see the town, but it looked like it was little more than a marina. We backed into the bottom deck of the ferry ourselves and we weren't packed so tightly that we had to worry about folding our mirrors and practically touching the vehicles in front or behind us. We got to Whittier at 5 PM, got in line by 5:45, were loaded by 7, and ate supper by 8:30. The ferry left at 10 PM sharp and it was still light enough to see the mountains and glaciers around us for a little while.
