What a great museum day we had! We met my friend, Betty, at the Musée de Luxembourg just as it opened for a special exhibition of the works of Alphonse Mucha, a Czech artist who known for Art Nouveau painting, illustrations, advertisements, postcards and designs. Seeing his prints reminded me of how much I like Art Nouveau design. It was mesmerizing. Then we took the bus part way to her friend, Solange’s, apartment walking through a lovely residential area filled with energy and students, finally landing at a great place for lunch. We then had coffee with Solange before we hopped back on the metro to go to the Musée des Arts Decoratif which is at the Louvre. This place was another stunner, with lots of beautiful jewelry, furniture, serving ware, etc. I just love to see how people used to live - some very opulently! There also was an entire floor of Art Nouveau there, so we came full circle in our day from the left bank to the right bank.
Leaving the museum we went to a Brasserie across the street on the Rue de Rivoli for drinks and conversation. Two hours later we all went our separate ways, the three of us heading back on the metro to our little apartment in Montmartre and Betty to Solange’s apartment.
Tomorrow we will start the day at the Musée d’Orsay. I can’t wait to commune with my Impressionists.
