The day began with some home cooked scrambled eggs, a bit of washing and a lazy start.
We decided that today we would work our way around Lake Rotorua with our first stop being Hannah’s Bay for our coffee . Great idea if Hannah’s Bay has a coffee shop . A side track for petrol which was much cheaper ($2.05) than anything we’d seen anywhere else. So we wandered off heading towards Mourea when we saw Hell’s Gate tourist sign so we decided Hell Yes and turned right.
Hells Gate was as it turned out was a Geothermal Springs Park where we spent a good couple of hours wandering around. it was absolutely amazing the difference between a hot arid desolate bubbling mud to a lush rainforest in a matter of steps. Y Yr 4 kiddies are going to love my slideshow ... fits perfectly into our Science unit.
From there we went onto Okere Falls where there were some rapids that the rafting companies use. We managed to time it perfectly and watched 7 rafts come down cleanly and three that did not. It was a pretty place and not a difficult walk at all.
From there we headed off further around the lake to Ngongotaha for lunch. I had the yummiest Mexican chicken soup and a Montana chardy .... yummy!
A side visit to Countdown on the way home saw us filled up with coke for rum and nibblies..... priorities right?
Quiet night in tonight as we nibble and drink chardy and rum.
