Frank and Joyce 2016 travel blog

I forgot to mention how beautiful the Coquihalla is in the spring with all the lush green new growth and those lovely hardy little wildflowers that appear in the cracks of the blasted rock walls. The waterfalls are at their maximum and spraying just like a bride's veil. Eagles, ospreys and hawks soaring overhead and masses of wild roses along the highway. It got cloudy in Clearwater and we did not see the mountains along the way to Jasper until near the town. What we did see was splendid. Remains of the great upheavals that the earth endured with beautiful contours and fractures. I must go there in the sunshine. The speed limit from Jasper east is only 70km so you do have time to look at the beauty around you.The scenery changes quickly from mountains and rivers to cattle ranches and fields of unplanted grain still very wet. This morning we went rockhounding at the junction of the Sturgeon River and the North Saskatchewan and found some petrified wood and lovely rocks. Drove through a few horrendous rainstorms in Saskatchewan but at North Battleford it got sunny and we had a nice quiet drive on Hwy 40 to Prince Albert. There sure is a lot of water along that route. Swamps and lakes everywhere. Some farmers are losing a lot of their land because of the higher level of water. Here we are camped at the Exhibition grounds in Prince Albert and now are going for showers and bed.

Sunday May 29th. Today we are travelling about 3 hours east to Hudson Bay SK. Visiting with Cindi, Frank's step sister. Hopefully take her out for dinner and spend the night in her driveway. Tomorrow we head for my parents homestead and the areas they lived in when they were children.
