Just Leaving Milan

That is Barcelona Down there

Sunday 21st August 2011 Weather:30degrees?/humid

It is now Monday 4am in the morning (12 noon Australian East Coast time) And Herman is still asleep. He has been sleeping for 12 hours and he tells me he has still got a few hours of sleep in him—ha-ha.

I just checked the ‘Journal’ and realized by only putting a map reference on last night some of you may wonder why you cannot get that page up---the reason was –I did not log a story!

The trip was very long but we made it. We had a 1 ½ hour stop-over in Milan where about half the people departed but the rest of us in transit to Barcelona remained on board-all standing/walking around, much to the annoyance of the cleaners and other service staff who had come on board. The time tally of the last couple of days ran something like this:-We got up on Saturday at 7am breakfasted in McDonalds then toured around Singapore, checked out of the hotel at 4pm, read papers had nibbles and a drink at Lobby Bar in the hotel, we were picked up at 8:30pm and driven to Singapore Airport, our plane left at 11:30pm for the 12 hour flight to Milan. We sat on the tarmac Malpensa Airport for more than 1 ½ hours then flew 1:10 min into Barcelona and finally arrived at the ‘Hostel House Barcelona’ to be told ”Your apartment is not ready yet you can leave your bags here but come back in 4 hours”. Herman and I wandered around the old Gothic Quarter (where our apartment is), Placa Catalunya all the way down Las Ramblas and Barcelonetta (the harbour). No photos were taken and we only glimpsed at the magnificent architecture everywhere—we were wandering around in a sleep deprived stupor, as we had been awake for approximately 48 hours with only a couple of 30?minute cat naps on the plane. I have seen enough thought to know we are in for a real visual treat in the next few days but also that we have to be very security conscious.
