|Arrived by night train at 6am to pouring rain. Walked for what seemed like miles on Christy's lame leg (strained something in SF and still working through it) before we realized a taxi was required to get to the Po Nagar Cham Tower outside of town.
Also visited a 13th century Chinese pagoda (Long Son) and a giant seated Buddha statue.
Not too many tourists, so much more enjoyable to see the sights (we missed the bus crowds today).
Nha Trang is known for seafood so we are planning to take advantage of this at every meal (including my shrimp soup breakfast!) Decided to get out of town tomorrow given that the rain and bad weather make snorkeling or SCUBA diving unlikely. Going to get another sleeper train (even though it is in the morning/afternoon) to Danang and then to Hoi An.
Interesting note is that all the Vietnamese working in the hotels/tourist offices have strong Cockney accents - very funny to hear. They are either watching too much Eastenders on TV or all have the same English teacher...just like all John's students in Japan now have a Kiwi accent!
