Arizona - the fourth state on our journey

Following the pilot vehicle

Today's drive was only a two hour jump from St. George to Las Vegas. The highlight was the descent into the Virgin River Gorge...it seemed that we went down for about 20 miles. We all followed a pilot vehicle at around 20mph and so the trip was actually about 2 1/2 hours. The roadside ditches remind us of roadsides in Mexico...litter all over the place. Coming into Vegas, some construction company had watered the road for about 500 feet, and so the car and motor home are filthy again. It was clean until now.

We came in past Nellis Air Force Base...for you airplane nerds, there were four B-2 bombers and a bunch of Blackhawk helicopters visible.

We're staying at the Las Vegas RV Resort...it's basically a big parking lot with the occasional palm tree planted in the pavement. However, it's not so bad since it's around 55 F outside. If it was hotter, the heat from the pavement would be terrible.

In the afternoon we drove down to the strip (after getting the car washed...this is Vegas after all). Driving down Las Vegas Blvd reminded us of walking the same road, for 8 hours, with Karen and Marshall a few years ago. Hint: it's much easier to drive.
