We left the 70 degre heat of the Grand Canyon and the smell of pine trees and ventured back into the searing heat of the desert. Along route 66 and the neverending route 62. It seemed to go on for ever....we travelled for 6 hours, virtually non stop (when we did stop and get out of the car we nearly melted...over 110 degrees!!!!)
We stopped at a place called 29 Palms, about 50 miles east of Palm Springs, just outside Joshua Tree National Park. We booked into a Motel...just like in the movies, a quick check for bed bugs, everything was fine.
The next day we continued our journey to Palm Springs. Past 4000 windmills (an amazing site). We booked into Pepper Tree Inn, a cute spanish feeling villa. We wanted to take a cable car ride to the top of the mountains, to escape the heat but it was closed. Instead we visted the art gallery.
We were in Palm Springs for one night only and we were really lucky cos Thursday's they close the main street for 'villagefest' where there are lots of stalls.. a great atmosphere.
Our last stop in US (mainland) was Venice Beach, LA. We checked into the Cadillac Hotel on Friday 14th Sept and were upgraded because Steve's mum and brother had left congrats messages at reception.. cool! Venice beach was a bit scary at first, lots of weird and wonderful characters.
Before we left Venice Beach on Sat, we took a stroll along to Santa Monica..where all the beautiful people hang out...yes we felt very at home!! ha ha
Off to Hawaii for some relaxation, and hopefully fishing and shark diving !!!!! Watch this space!
