Thunder and Lightning! We had our first prairie electrical storm at the Ponderosa in Swift Current last night and it was a good one. When we went to bed about 11:00pm, the skies were clear and it was 35C. About 2:00am, the thunder and lightning started and the skies lit up with flashes - very impressive, and pretty loud too! Then came strong wind gusts followed by heavy rain. This was a good old fashioned prairie thunderstorm.

We kind of enjoyed it - seeing the spectacular lightning show and all, but we were a bit worried about the wind as we were parked under some pretty big trees. We actually went outside to bring our recliner chairs in and as Paulette picked one up she said 'handling an aluminum chair in a lightning storm, probably isn't a great idea"! We both survived, as did Mo and Molly although they stayed real close to us for the rest of the night.

In the morning, the skies were clear again and there was no damage to anything around us that we could see. The temperatures had dropped though - down to 22C, so that was a nice relief. Surprisingly, the temperature stayed at 22C right through Saskatchewan.

At 8:00am, we pulled out of the Ponderosa onto the TC1 and headed east across Saskatchewan. Very flat, straight highway for the most part - just put the truck in cruise control and steer straight ahead! Lots of wheat, flax and canola fields with every town marked by their local grain elevator.

At Regina, we turned off the TC1 and went for a quick spin through the downtown area, passing by the legislative grounds and the University of Regina. Paulette's radar was working and we went right by a strip mall with a huge Winner's store, so she zipped in there for a quick "shopping fix" while I walked the dogs around a nearby park.

Back on the road, it was only a couple of more hours to the town of Moosomin and Fieldstone Campground - right near the Manitoba border. The RV Park is really nice - very easy access and parking at our site. It is much like the provincial park sites in B.C. only there is room to park the RV and truck on the road outside the picnic table and campfire area. The RV Park has lots and lots of trees, paths for walking and it has a man-made lake for swimming. As well, it is extremely well kept, clean and lot's of privacy.

Tonight, I cooked up a bunch of bacon on the barbeque and we made toasted bacon and tomato sandwiches for dinner - very, very good too! The 'Mickey Mouse Toaster' that Kevin gave us for Xmas a few years ago came in real handy as well as scaring the daylights out of Paulette when it started singing the "M-I-C-K-E-Y__M-O-U-S-E" song as the toast popped up - we didn't know it did that!

Tonight we took the dogs for a long walk around the hiking trails and had an early night as we will be on the road again in the morning for a short drive into Winnipeg and a welcome four day layover.
