|Arrived in Airlie beach, during another tropical storm that put our idea of camping again out of the window. Booked into a place called Koala's - room was like a crappy motel but under the weather circumstances we were happy just to get somewhere dry.
Took a trip into Airlie beach once storm had finished to find a boozy strip of bars full of blokes getting drunk all day - looked just like Magaruff. But it is the main gateway to see the Whitsunday Islands, which is why most people come. We managed to get a cracking deal on a old tall ship by waiting for stand-by rates. Received two free nights accommodation in the deal at another hostel that we gladly took so we could get out of Koala's. The campsite at Koala's had an old mattress floating in the pool, which just about summed the place up - so glad it had been raining when we arrived!
Spent a day around Airlie beach getting gear and BYO alcohol for the sailing trip before getting an early night ready for early start.
