We picked Jerry and Jared up at the airport this morning. We expected Jerry to arrive at 11:20. I had the camera aimed at the escalator near the baggage room, expecting Jerry to arrive any minute, it was Jared instead. :-) They always play these jokes on us, we should have figured it out. Jerry had given us “Jared’s” arrival time so we would be there for his early arrival, a much welcomed surprise. Jerry’s plane arrived about thirty minutes later. They did this the last time we were in Texas too, we expected only Jerry and both of them arrived. Next time we will expect “both” of them to do it again, no matter who says they are coming.

They only had today and tomorrow and had to be back at the airport early Sunday morning, so we packed a lot of exploring into the day. Both of them had been to Mount Rushmore before, so we took them by for more pictures, but we didn’t stop. We headed on to the town of Custer for lunch before driving the wildlife loop at Custer State Park. This time the wild burros did not let us down, they were blocking traffic ahead of us, Jerry and Jared got out for pictures with them. They were a hit with everyone. We didn’t even have carrots to feed them, one of them was so sweet, he even posed for pictures and let Jerry and Jared hug him. We also saw a lot of adorable babies with them.

Back on the drive our next stop was for a herd of buffalo crossing the street. We would be disappointed if this didn’t happen every time we visit Custer State Park, they are expected. :-) I got some great pictures of babies feeding again today. We sat in the car and watched from a distance, some of the bulls are in breeding mode and they were making some really scary sounds, we definitely didn’t want to make any of then angry. One headed right in front of the car and several came really close to our windows. It was exciting but also a bit scary.

After a fun day in the park we drove home and enjoyed the baked ham we fixed in advance for dinner. It was a fun day with two of our favorite “boys”. Check back later for more, we will be taking them on tours of Sturgis and Deadwood tomorrow.
