Archie's party, fun times!....
Feb 7, 2011
|What a nice turn-out there was for Archie's birthday party on Saturday. I think there were about 40 guests from all over California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah & Colorado. Archie is certainly well known & loved by everyone. Daughter Debbie & granddaughter Danielle arrived from Denver just in time to jump in with cooking & set-up. Not that Jim didn't have things well under control! That guys a gem, he cooked & bbq'd for four straight days!
The weather cooperated pretty well with nice temperatures in the day and not too bad every night. We had a campfire every morning & evening and that always helps to keep you toasty. Archie & Jim make these great little paraffin/sawdust fire starter "thingy's" in egg cartons. If you want to know more just drop us a line & we'll tell you how to make them. They work great!
Apparently Archie's friend Ernie thinks long & hard about each year's birthday gift. One year he came with PVC pipe that had a cap on each end. You could tell there was something inside from the noise it made when you shook it. But the ends had been glued on (unbeknownst to Archie) and it took everyone messing with it awhile before they finally figured out that little 'trick'. After sawing it open Archie finally found a nice buck knife inside.
This year Ernie arrived with a large package on the back of the Arctic Cat. After opening several layers, Archie finally got to the bale of hay. He probably should have had a clue when he found the empty plastic container of needles in the card before opening the gift. You know the old saying, "it's like looking for a needle in a haystack", right???? Well, there was cash in the hay this year. And since Ernie wouldn't say how much, it pretty much had to be sifted down to nothing. Everyone got a big kick out of that gift & there's already speculation going on about next years....
Sunday morning Jim, with a bit of help from Glenn, Les, Danielle & Debbie, made omelets for everyone for breakfast. Glen handled the bacon & Les the potatoes. Danielle took orders for each omelet. Of course I ordered mine with everything which included bacon, sausage, onion, mushrooms, asparagus & cheese. Oh my goodness, I don't know if it was just because we were eating out in the fresh air & sunshine but it was awesome!!!
Later in the day preparations started for the super bowl chow. Hot dogs, nine layer bean dip, stuffed mushrooms & jalapenos, macaroni salad, deviled eggs & the list goes on! I weighed in this morning with a +3 pounds! Oh my, time to start the diet/walking. There was a pool going on & the winner changed several times as the game progressed. So of course there was the normal whooping & hollering. We like it when a game score stays relatively close, especially near the end. Makes it more fun to watch. And my honey won a pool for the final score back home, so he was especially pleased!
Jim & Dan headed back for Vegas yesterday and Marty & Stephanie headed out first this morning followed shortly by Les & Sharon. It was sure a pleasure to meet both of these neat couples. We look forward to spending time with them again. In fact the whole crowd at this weekends gathering were just a great bunch of folks. What a neat life we get to live!
This afternoon Larry & I took a couple of hours to explore the old mining town of Oatman, (more on that next post). We took the long way home and had a nice drive. We arrived home in time for a nice visit and dinner with Archie & his friend Connie. BBQ'd baby back ribs and twice baked potatoes. I talked Archie out of his twice baked recipe & will definitely be making them again, soon. Afterward he started another wonderful campfire and we visited until the yawns took over. A great end to another neat day. We'll miss it here, and hopefully we'll be invited back again next year, lol!
Cousin Jackie returned my call today and confirmed that a visit with them works for Tuesday. So, we head out for Twenty-Nine Palms tomorrow morning. So we'll see you on down the road a bit.....
