Suwannee River State Park

RVING WITH THE GRANDCHILDREN

This is the second Florida State Park we've been to that the park has since been upgraded, which includes 20,30,50 AMP service along with sewer hook ups in all sites. They even have a half dozen that had a concrete pad for the handicapped. They have also built new bathhouses with a laundry facility.

On Saturday mornings they have a tram ride offered by Friends of Suwannee River that we would recommend (Donations of a $1.00 per person), they take you to a few great areas that you might not see if you're not into hiking. The areas include the Columbus Cemetery, Lime Sink Run Trail and the Old Ferry Landing, along with more information than you can possibly remember. However, one word of caution - the mosquitoes are abundant.

We were only there for the weekend and stayed at the park the whole time. The park offers many hiking trails, the trail we ventured on was The Swannee River Trail (this trail was rated as a leisure type trail & was most enjoyed by Dorothy). The flower photos were taken on this trail along with some of the other photos. Along this trail there were banks of the Suwannee that you could take a fishing pole and get in a little fishing action. There were many more activities we could have ventured into if we had the time. They also have a boat launch and if you don't have a boat you can always rent a canoe. Also avaliabe to rent are the cabins.

Our only wildlife encounter on this trip was one friendly squirrel. However if you come here in the summertime you will probably encounter gopher turtles. We were told that they have beavers down on the Suwannee and foxes in the park during the right time of the year.

Overall we had a great time and we plan to visit this park again, I almost forgot to mention, the trains are running through here 24/7 and some of the other campers did not like that.
