We have enjoyed our stay at Chatfield State Park and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Denver area. The park offers a wealth of recreational activities, conveniently located on the southest side of the Denver metropolitan area.

Chatfield State Park is truly one of Colorado’s full service outdoor recreation areas. It has something for everyone including all the normal activities with great fishing plus more unique recreational activities including triathlete swimming practice, scuba instruction, hot air ballooning, and remote control model airplane flying. I am adding a few pictures of some of the hot air balloons we saw. We watched some of the model airplanes too, but I didn't get any pictures.

If this park had monthly rates, we would stay for at least a month. Jerry would love to fish here. In addition to a healthy population of trout and bass, they have walleye, channel catfish, yellow perch, crappie, bluegill, sunfish and carp.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife periodically stocks the lake with rainbow trout and other fish. Springtime signals the start of open water fishing and the park’s trout fishing is some of the best in the Denver area. Throughout the summer, walleye, bass, perch, crappie, catfish and an occasional trout are caught, with the best action early and late in the day or at night. Fall’s cooler temperatures mean the trout return from deep water into the shallows. Fishing continues through the winter months when the lake freezes. In the winter months, ice fishing is very popular.

The park is open all year, but you are only allowed to stay for two weeks.
