Yesterday we had a beautiful drive thru the Adirondacks. The day before we got tired of our gps lady saying "Winding road ahead," "left turn ahead," "right turn ahead." Shortly after we hit the road this morning we pulled over & David shut off the curve warning in the gps. Ha! We drove along the "chain of lakes" - their names are actually numbers. We did come across another Long Lake as we left the Adirondacks.
Once out of the mountains we passed Civil War & Revolutionary War cemeteries - the history here is amazing but we don't have time to dig into it.
We got to Dave & Shirley Smith's home about 1:30. They have a beautiful yard right on the Oneida River & we were invited to park our trailer on the side of the yard. They even provided 30 amp electric & water - great little private rv park! We had a nice visit sitting out on their back deck watching boats on the river & then they fixed a delicious dinner. Dave charcoaled chicken & Shirley fixed corn on the cob (grown on their land) & a tomato/cucumber salad - with homemade rhubarb pie & ice cream for dessert. Then this morning Dave cooked us breakfast (Shirley contributed fresh blueberry muffins). After breakfast Dave took David to their "community" garden (they share it with their neighbors & a son) & we took squash, onions & potatoes along with us. They really know how to spoil their friends/guests!
We hit the road about 10:00 & had another beautiful drive to North Tonawanda, NY (near Niagara Falls & Buffalo). We didn't have the curvy mountain roads today so made good time & got here about 2:00.
Plans include church tomorrow, seeing Niagara Falls, & eating buffalo wings in Buffalo. More later...
