even more views of Lake Como

When entertaining guests visiting Lecco, you can't let them go without doing at least one of the following: Funivia Piani d'Erna (the cable car up into the mountains) or a ferry ride along Lake Como. With guest Carol's vertigo, it was a clear decision. Skip the heights and go for the ferry ride. Although I had experienced the ferry between Varenna, Bellagio and Carbenabbia, I hadn't thought of taking one directly from Lecco. So up 'early' we were in time for the 10am departure. Although there weren't too many leaving during the day, this one was unusually empty so we were able to almost take our pick of the seats up the front, with the wind our hair.... channel Celine Dion.. This ride went for an hour and a half as it weaved backwards and forwards along Como to the various ports of call along the way. Unlike the action packed day with Sarah and Joe, Carol and Annie were content to take in small details including a midday nap in a park. A few hours and a gelato each later we were ready to board the ferry back; this time the audience had grown and we almost did not get a seat and some people stood. There were groups of Italian women with group name badges and a group of students from Minnesota doing a musical tour, cramming in as many sites along the way as possible. Again, the weather and the Lago did not disappoint; even if you take the ferry every day I think you could still gain pleasure from noticing the beauty of nature especially in the cloud and sky formations and the way the light hits the mountain. I'm going to miss these views.
