It was a long 336 miles from Nashville, TN to East St. Louis, IL under overcast skies but no rain. That was actually 13 miles farther than it should have been since I missed my turn and wound up crossing the Mississippi River into St. Louis, MO and it took 13 miles to get turned around and back to the Casino Queen. This was the first time our GPS, Sheila, had faltered on us. We were in an area making rapid turns from one highway to another and each one actually had several numbers(I-44, I55, US40, US15 and IL 3 for example). By the time she had pronounced all of the highway names for a turn we would already be at the next one and we missed it!
We are staying at the Casino Queen RV Park
which is really in a great location to visit St.Louis, MO as it is right across the Mississippi River from the Gateway Arch and within a mile or two of three bridges crossing that river. It is probably the most expensive casino RV park we have stayed in but it's all about location, location, location. We have a long paved pull-through with gravel between the sites. It has 50 amps, water and sewer but all connections are at the back of the site so extra hoses are required. The satellite was an easy acquisition and the Verizon reception is good. WiFi is available for a fee but we are not sure how much since we carry our own.
Saturday we met an old Navy buddy, Bob, and his wife Suzanne for a few hours of delightful conversation and a great Italian meal. It had been over 40 years since we had seen Bob but he hadn't changed much just a wee bit older!!!
We stayed around the coach Sunday during a whole day of rain and just relaxed before heading into St. Louis Monday. While in St. Louis we visited the Gateway Arch
and took the elevator to the top. The view from the top was exceptional and you can see for miles east and west through these tiny little windows.
We then went out of downtown a little ways to the Fox Theater
, the Cathedral Basilica
, the Laumeier Sculpture Park
and the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site
. That was a full day so we just stayed at the Mothership and rested on Tuesday, just enjoying the cool weather (mid 60s) and getting ready for our trip to Kansas City tomorrow.
