Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse..

Last one!

This will be out last update from Traverse City. We have enjoyed every minute of our stay here. I am adding a few pictures of the awesome Holiday Park Campground. They have sites right on the lake, we chose one out in the open so we could get our satellite in. They do have cable also, we used it to see all the local activities going on.

Holiday Park Campground is a beautiful family friendly campground that offers plenty of amenities and is conveniently located near many attractions in the Northern Michigan area. Situated on the south end of Silver Lake in Traverse City, Michigan, the campground has a gorgeous sandy beach equipped with a boat launch. Boat rentals are also available to guests.

I am also adding another lighthouse we visited in Manistee, Michigan. I was planning to do a special update on the area and gave out of time. :-) The Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse is located in Manistee county, on the outer end of north pier.

First built in 1869, it burned in the Great Fire and a new one was constructed in 1872. The North Pierhead Lighthouse is built from cast iron and stands 39 feet tall. Many changes have taken place over the years--including a wooden catwalk that was eventually replaced by an iron one around 1900. Many Michigan lighthouses demolished their catwalks when the lights became electrified, so Manistee's catwalk is a rare sight. In the late 1920s, after extensive pier renovations, the old fog signal building was replaced by the present structure.

Standing watch over Lake Michigan waters, the North Pierhead Lighthouse welcomes boaters into its harbor, and is a reminder of Manistee's great maritime history.

We will be moving to Muskegon, Michigan in the morning. Check back later for more from Michigan.
