|Even though Larry & I are both back in Nevada now the next few posts will be of our brief stay near Branson, Missouri. I was there for 3 days before flying back to Vegas and Larry remained there for an additional week. He & Onyx did a bit of exploring after I left and he even took a few pics!
Known as the "Live Music Show Capital of the World," (Las Vegas might beg to differ, lol!) Branson, MO, is truly a one-of-a-kind family vacation destination — and an incredible value — with more than 50 live performance theaters, three pristine lakes, 12 championship golf courses, an international award-winning theme park, dozens of attractions and museums, an Historic Downtown district, shopping galore, a full range of dining options, and a host of hotels, motels, resorts, RV parks, campgrounds and meeting and conference facilities.
Our first visit was specifically to see the late afternoon show, 'Strait Country'. I love George Strait's music and James Garrett did a fine job of impersonating him. He actually does two shows, a morning show featuring John Denver and a 5pm show of George Strait. We arrived a bit early and they allowed us into the showroom even though they were warming up and hadn't yet changed their attire! The band did a portion of 3 John Denver tunes and we were quite impressed, wishing we were coming back another day for that performance. We chatted with the entertainers a bit & really enjoyed the show, purchasing a couple of their CD's afterward. Randy Plummer, of the Plummer Family Singers was a real pleasure to meet. So kind, friendly and what a great smile and laugh this guy has! I highly recommend this show if you are in the area.
The following day we came back & spent a couple of hours just checking things out. The 'strip' is certainly different from the Vegas 'strip'! We also visited the lake, fish hatchery, a couple of stores and meandered up through the hills for a better view of the city. The weather was wonderful, warm with little humidity, which is pretty heavy just one month earlier. We visited Branson before in the late 90's and like most places, things have really changed & grown! Traffic was a bit heavy for the two lane roads and I imagine it's even worse in peak tourist season. But as I mentioned earlier, Branson offers affordable, wholesome family entertainment and best of all, it's located in the beauty of the Ozark Mountains. We certainly plan to visit again, sometime down the road.
