The view of the river from Mack's on the River

The three days we spent in Hattiesburg were very nice, the weather was perfect, the only rain we had was during the first night we were there. One afternoon we went to the Turtle Creek Mall and then drove to Columbia, MS and found a really nice antique mall. On our way back to the campground we stopped at a restaurant that looked interesting. It was called Farmers Market, an all you can it buffet. It didn’t look like much from the outside but the food was really good, all down-home Southern cooking. The next day we went to the 49 Flea Market on route 49 just south of Hattiesburg and then stopped at another large antique mall. On each trip that we made to and from to the campground we saw a huge fish sign along the road advertising “Mack’s on the River” so on Saturday evening we decided to check it out. It was an all you can eat seafood buffet back off the road in the middle of no-where. Bob ordered the seafood buffet that included catfish, oysters and crawdads. Yuck, I had the salad bar. The food was really good and I had two serving of a dessert I couldn’t identify. The owner stopped by our table to see if we were happy and mentioned that the desert was his wife’s recipe for Lemon Icebox made with Ritz crackers……yum, and it had meringue on top.

On Sunday morning we left Hattiesburg for our next destination, Coldwater, Mississippi. Coldwater is located about 25 miles south of Memphis, TN. We will be spending the next week at Memphis South RV Park. It’s an ok campground, it has all the necessary facilities and is well kept. Lots of the campers appear to be working in the area rather than travelers like us. We picked this location because it is between Memphis and Tunica, MS. There are nine casinos in Tunica and we are going to check out a couple and then, of course, while in Memphis we have to make a trip to see Graceland.
