Leaving Devils Tower for Buffalo, WY, it was so windy that it was tough to keep Winnie on the 2 lane road. I stopped at least once when I thought we were going to go under sail using the awning (yes that damn awning again). I tried to get out of the coach, but the wind was blowing so hard I couldn’t open the door until it slacked off a little. Fortunately, no damage to the awning and we resumed our trip.
We got on I90 for the transit through Gillette, WY for an overnight stop in Buffalo. The scenery changes from the pine covered Black Hills to prairie with occasional hills and humps. There are lots of snow fences along the sides of the road to prevent snow drifts in the winter and lots of cattle and hay. At major road intersections and on every entrance and exit from I90 there are warning signs, flashing lights, and road block gates that tell motorists to exit the road or not enter a road when lights are flashing. These appear to be for the winter when roads may be closed due to blizzard or whiteout conditions.
