Road Trip 2009 travel blog

Destination: Badlands
27 August - I left the Rapid City WalMart around 10 this morning to complete the final leg to the Badlands National Park. I arrived at the Circle 10 Campground, which is just a couple of miles north of the park’s main entrance around noon. My old hiking friend Sharon is temporarily working and staying here through the Workamp program. I plan on spending one night here for some needed R&R (recharging and revamping) and then moving into the Badlands Campground tomorrow where it‘s cheaper and is in a more natural setting. It was a rather hot day so I’m glad I had the electrical hookup to run the air conditioner.

28 August - I moved to the national park this morning and then Sharon and I did a little caching and a little hiking. She had to be at work at 2 so after dropping her off at home, I explored the park on my own the rest of the day. We later enjoyed the wonderful presentation of the Night Sky Program at the amphitheater before hitting the sack early, as we plan on doing some serious hiking tomorrow.

29 August - Sharon came by this morning about 9 and we headed out on our big adventure. She had pieced together a couple of different hikes and we ended up covering about 7 miles of trail. On the way back to the RV we did a virtual cache and hiked a couple of more miles for a total of around 9 for the day. The hikes were great and the weather was near perfect. We had planned on having a campfire later at her place but she was too pooped so we called it a day.
