John & Sandra Expedition to OZ,NZ, Fiji Thailand & Singapore travel blog

Left Surat Bay this morning and headed up along the coast for Kaka Point and a brief stop before a scenic drive - very pleasant!.

Left the Catlins coast at Balclutha and headed up towards Dunedin and The Otago Peninsula.

We called in at Larnarch Castle on the Peninsula - the only castle in NZ. It was mid-afternoon and the sun was shining brightly , the castle is positioned at the top of a hill and therefore commanding superb views acrosss Otago Harbour, Dunedin and the remainder of the Peninsula. It also has well established and laid out gardens in which to wander and relax (after the stesses of the last few days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!) .

We then put Mavis through her paces as we tracked around the coastline of the Peninsula - with tight, narrow bends and sweeping bays. We reached Harrington Point at the very head of the Peninsula in search of Albatross - but only saw a couple - but a great place to be nevertheless.
