Backtracking a bit today to our recent trip to Pierre, SD.

Several of our favorite musician friends were attending the Dakota Western Heritage Festival & were encouraging us to attend. It's a 3 day event filled with outstanding cowboy music and poetry, western artisans and vendors, demonstrations, displays of buggies, wagon and stagecoach and even cowboy church. This year there was also an awesome wagon train/trail ride. Unfortunately we didn't arrive in time to take the ride but our friend Bonnie did & she had a blast. She took some nice pics as well, so will be sharing a few of those with you today.

We did arrive in time to listen to many of the weekend poet/musicians jam a bit & to enjoy the steak feed. The weather was perfect for the event & attendance was great. One of the highlights for me was Yvonne Hollenbecks presentation "Patchwork of the Prairie", an outstanding heartwarming mix of history, beautiful quits and special poetry.

Saturday afternoon the Freedom Stage was packed with talented folks from around the country. Including our friends the Ramblin Rangers, Cheryl Janssens, Pegie Douglas of the Badger Clark Sett, Eric Wade, Mike Linderman, Bonnie Krogman & the list goes on. There was an outstanding line up for the Concert on Saturday night: Cowboy Poet Marty Blocker with musicians/singers Trinity Seely, Paul Larson and special guest Kenny Putnam. These folks are the best of the best in the cowboy poetry and music world.

As you can see, it was a jam packed event. We were so very glad we came. Both Friday evening & Saturday were a lot of fun. After checking out of our hotel Sunday morning, we attended Cowboy Church, enjoyed the biscuit & gravy cowboy breakfast afterward and then, with hugs & handshakes got on the road, destination the Badlands. We visited the Badlands way back in 2006 and since we were fairly close to the loop wanted to visit it once again. So, that's where I'll pick up tomorrow. See you at the Badlands!!!
