At the request of some passengers, the captain decided to take a slight detour to sail past two UNESCO World Heritage sites. Balls Pyramid is the remains of a massive volcano. It is the tallest volcanic spot in the world rising 1844 feet above sea level. Originally, it was thought to be uninhabited but in 2001, scientists discovered the rarest insect in the world living on the island. We also passed Lord Howe Island. Nearly 50 percent of its plant species are found nowhere else in the world.
