Today we are touring Cinque Terre, five fishing villages along the Italian coastline, north of La Spezia. We decided to visit each village by train as the twelve kilometere walk along the coastal path in the 35 degree heat would have been a little too much, even if we stuck to the shade wherever possible. Our plan was to start with the quaint little spot of "Riomaggiore" and then continue on to "Manarola", then "Corniglia", then "Vernazza" and ending with "Monterosso". However, the Italian train sysytem had other plans....when we caught our 10:16 a.m. train from Riomaggiore to Manarola, it turned out to be the 10:08 a.m. train that was running late and which did not stop in Manarola (or Corniglia or Vernazza) and therefore we wound up in Monterosso sooner than we had planned and then had to visit the villages on the way back to La Spezia in reverse order....no big deal....just another example of things not working out as you had planned......anyways, enjoy the views....
