Fox Glacier

Haast Pass

We drove on to the adjacent Fox Glacier in the morning but we didn't venture very far - it didn't look as impressive as the Franz Josef and we were too tired to do anything strenuous today.

As it was we pushed on down the West Coast and back through the Haast pass until we reached Wanaka. Just before we got there we stopped at the quite interesting "Stuart Landsborough's Puzzling World" - a collection of optical illusions and puzzles, including a large maze that Kate and I got lost in for an hour (of course Kate was much faster getting round it than me, but we don't mention that!).

Wanaka itself is meant to be a smaller and more upmarket version of Queenstown and it seemed nice enough, nestled on the edge of Lake Wanaka. We went straight to the recommended Kai Whaka Pai, a funky little café/restaurant before retiring to the Purple Cow Hostel for our sleep.
