Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

It sure would have been nice to sleep in this morning but today was a travel day, a LONG travel day. We took some time to share our morning coffee before getting busy and we pulled out of Rolling Retreats at 7:40 AM.

I decided to bypass Oklahoma City and avoid the bumper to bumper traffic moving at 60 mph. I have a friend who calls that early morning rush hour traffic the “Demolition Derby”.

We turned north on Hwy 81 at El Reno and then turned east on Hwy 51 at Hennessey, Oklahoma. That took us to I-35 well north of Oklahoma City. The little detour I had devised cost us about 20 minutes in time but saved a great deal of aggravation. We also stopped just before reaching the Kansas State Line at a very nice truck stop (Phillips 66) to fuel the truck and managed to grab a bite to eat while we were there.

It was 3:30 in the afternoon when we arrived at the RV Park in Topeka and we were set up by 4:30. John & Lori arrived a few minutes later to pick us up and we headed to Texas Roadhouse for Dinner. We enjoyed the dinner but the meal played second fiddle to the great conversation with our friends. It was so good to see them again. We look forward to being together again on June 6th and 7th, and then again when we are at Mountaindale RV Resort.

Now Marilyn & I are back at the RV, worn out and ready for a good night of sleep with no reason to get up early tomorrow. Life is Good!
