Looking out from where we ate our dinner.

Unpacking chicken wings ready for the barbecue rush later in the evening.

Hot coals in the barbecue.

Xmas is on the way. Melrose enjoying the decorations.

And then it is my turn.

Unusual light fitting in the foyer of the restaurant/bar.

I sent a message to Melrose, and we arranged to meet at 5.30, and have a walk along the western bank of Star Lake, before looking for somewhere to have dinner.

It was still daylight when we set out, although night was rapidly approaching. The lake was very still, and the potential for reflections is huge.

One thing I love is the way they play coloured lights up into the trees. It gives an amazing look to the evening. We walked quite a long way, and came across an area where there were four or five restaurants/bars. One looked good quite appealing, but was deserted, so we decided to give that one a miss. We went in next door, and checked out the menu. It was a very ornate place, but surprisingly the prices were no more than quite ordinary restaurants in the town. I suppose this is because they make their money from the drinks they sell.

Melrose ordered a hamburger, and a creamy drink which was supposed to be avocado. I went for carbonara and a drink that appeared to be filled with passion fruit in the illustration. The hamburger was amazing, and Melrose enjoyed it no end. Her drink was a little different. It was ok, and it was cool and refreshing, but there was a flavor that neither of us could quite identify. My carbonara was OK, but also had a finely chopped herb mixed through it, and this I could not identify either. My drink was very nice, but not a lot like the illustration. It seemed to be a carbonated soft drink, with a tablespoonful or so of passion fruit on top. It was refreshing, and tasted good, but did not quite meet up to how the illustration appeared.

We sat outside, with a magic view over the lake. The weather was mild, cool but definitely not cold. And there was no wind to chill us off. Very pleasant to just sit and relax.

We sat chatting for an hour or two, and when it was time to pay the bill and go, the waiter did not seem to know what we wanted, so he called on a girl sitting near us to help him. She spoke good English, and it seems that she owns the bar. So of course she was more than happy to help us.

When we left, we wandered back to the city centre, and I got a bus outside Grandbuy. Melrose crossed the road to get her bus home. It had been a lovely easy evening.
