Perfect ending to a perfect day

We have had some spectacular days on this trip so far - visiting my brother Joe's family in Albuquerque, seeing Elk, Bison, Deer and other wildlife, driving up Pike's Peak, visiting Rocky Mountain National Park just to name a few.

I have to say that none of those compares to the fun we had camping at Itasca State Park with Andrea's family. We started the day with pancakes and bacon for everyone. The weather was beautiful - clear, sunny, and warm. We went to the headwaters of the Mississippi River to walk across. Andrea, Brian, Owen and Annabelle walked across on the rocks while Henry, Blondie and I chose to wade across. The water is clear and COLD! After being in Vicksburg where the Mississippi River was rising it is amazing to see that it begins as a stream from Lake Itasce.

We took a break back at the campsite and tried to rent a pontoon boat. They were all rented out so we spent the rest of the afternoon at the campsite. Owen had fun with caterpillars that were falling from the trees onto their tent.

After a delicious supper of chili that Andrea prepared, and more S'Mores of course, we walked to the lake to watch the sunset. It was so peaceful and beautiful to see. Just as we were getting ready to leave we spotted a Loon in the lake. Andrea stayed long enough to see 3 more loons.

A beautiful ending to a beautiful day.
