Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

Just a couple of miles across the New Mexico-Colorado Border...

Another 150 miles to go, but what a view...

We're building up some threatening skies...

Part of the Santa Fe trail...

Wow, we almost got this guy, he was in the road &...

After Trinidad, the scenery changed rapidly...

It's really getting dark...

Darn, here comes the rain...

It is pouring!...

We're almost to our campsite, it's up in those mountains...

We have arrived in Colorado, wet, cold & tired, but safely. It was such a beautiful drive this morning. The sun was shining brightly & then, wham...a massive storm front that continued for the next 100 miles. I mean it flat poured & never stopped. We finally pulled into a rest area for lunch. Our hot chili was appreciated as the temperature outside was a cool 41 degrees!

The Mountaindale Campground & RV Park turned out to be a very pleasant surprise! As I mentioned yesterday, we called ahead & made a reservation for the first time since we began full-timing, nearly a year ago. I usually like to see in person what I am getting into, but with the holiday weekend, we decided we best firm up a spot for the next week. It is 16 miles outside of Colorado Springs, in a very forested area, but as you can see our satellite (datastorm) is working fine.

We may even stay a few extra days, because when we checked in & picked up all the brochures & info on things to do in this area we were amazed at all the activities available. Assuming the weather cooperates. The paper forecasts clearing tomorrow, slight chance of showers in the evening & then sunnier, warmer days for the rest of the weekend. Sounds good to us! Just driving the road in to the campground, we could see the beauty all around us!

The Royal Gorge, Pike's Peak, Garden of the God's attractions are going to be awesome, we can tell already! So, please pray for sun in Colorado OK? Thanks, hope to have some great photos for you tomorrow!
