Time for a little R&R in Hong Kong for the weekend.
Staying in the Excelsior on Hong Kong Island is slightly better than Mirador Mansions (or the infamous Chungking) in Kowloon. Executive lounge on the 31st flour has great views over the harbour and across Central, the complimentory snacks and booze are an added bonus. Headed over to TST on Friday evening for a pub meal in Delaney's and finished off with the "270 degree views" from the top flour restaurant here in the hotel. Saturday was national day holiday all over China, I had a wander along Central to the IFC shopping mall and then took the Star Ferry over to Kowloon. I walked up towards the markets at Mong Kok but a march in protest to Communist rule down Nathan Road slowed my progress and it was just about time to return as soon as I got there.
We got the prime position at the bar window for fantastic views of the firework display in the harbour, the Chinese still know how to do a firework display, 23 minutes ending with an incredible finale. I videoed the whole display but the file is too large to upload here, I'll break it up when I get home.
Shopping and eating filled Sunday but it's now time to go back to work - flying off to the Philippines this afternoon.
