We drove to the Gulf to a town called Crystal River, we passed through the Historic town of Inverness, the county seat for Citrus County, the historic county court house. A very imposing structure. It was built in 1912, The architects, J. R. MacEachron and W. R. Biggers, reportedly used the Polk County Courthouse as a model; the style has been described as eclectic, with elements of Neo-Classical, Italian Renaissance, Prairie School and Mission styles. The building includes a copper cupola with a clock face on each of the four sides, topped with a belvedere with miniature columns. The building is uniquely situated on a square lot at a 45 degree angles to the street grid.
in July 1961, Elvis Presley came to town to film "Follow That Dream". He and his entourage spent 6 weeks in "Sleepy Little" Inverness filming the movie, they brought with them Boats, RV and Presley's favorite Cadillac. The courtroom scene was filmed in the Old Citrus County Courthouse.
The river in Crystal River is "Crystal Clear". We had hoped to see some Manatees; however, they were to far out to see from shore, we would have to take a boat tour and then swim with them, something we were not ready to do. We drove to the Gulf coast on Fort Island, lots of tidal marshes with a beautiful view of the Nuclear Power Plant.
