September 10-11, 2012 – Emporia to Paola and Louisburg, Kansas
This morning I was at the dentist’s office at 8. I got my teeth cleaned. They took x-rays of my teeth and discovered that a filling which has been there since about 1955 needed to be replaced. I guess after almost 60 years I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of that filling. I have another one which was put in at the same time, and it seems to be okay. I have an appointment on October 16th to get it replaced.
I scooted back to the coach, hooked up the car and headed to Paola. There is an RV service center there which did some work on the coach last year when I had a bay door that wouldn’t close. I called them, and they said they would look at the slide. I had tried yesterday to get it to open but it still wouldn’t. So, when I got to Paola, they went out to take a look. Guess what. It opened right up. So, once again, it has foiled me in getting it fixed.
I came on to Louisburg to the Rutlander RV Park. I had stayed here last year and knew it was a nice place. I’m going to be here until Wednesday when I will go to Higginsville to spend the night. Higginsville is only 50 miles or so from Sedalia so I won’t have far to go on Thursday. I should be able to get there early to get parked and be ready for the Boot Camp which begins at 1 p.m.
When I got here, I hooked up but I didn’t have any electricity. I unplugged and replugged and the electricity came on but went off almost immediately. My surge protector showed that only 1 of the 2 lines coming into the coach was getting power. I didn’t know whether I had a problem with the surge protector, or if the electricity at the pole was the problem. I called the folks at Paola, and they said try using your 30 amp pigtail and see if the surge protector lets power into the coach. I did that, and it works just fine. So, there is something wrong with the 50 amp service, and the surge protector did just what it is supposed to do which is protect the coach from bad power. Fortunately, it is cooler today so I don’t need the AC since I can have the windows open. I can only run 1 AC on 30 amp power so it can’t keep up with really hot weather.
I had a nap this afternoon and watched some TV tonight.
September 11 – Today I’ve just hung out, played some solitaire on the computer and worked a little on my sightseeing. It has been a great day. I had the windows open and really enjoyed the nice weather.
Tomorrow, I’m off to Higginsville which is about an hour and a half from here so I won’t need to be in any hurry to get on the road. I’ve got a spot reserved there so I know I have a place to go.
