Carpe in Storage
Vents taped, tanks dumped & flushed, and windows covered: ready...

Wed, 01 Sep: This morning we drove the sixty miles from Hobe Sound to Fort Lauderdale where we're cloistered in a Passport America park. We'll be here until Friday morning at which time we'll move nine miles south to the storage facility near the cruise port. We're preparing Carpe for storage (cleaning out the fridge & freezer, laundry, etc.) and staging stuff for packing.

Tomorrow we're meeting our travel agent, Bernie Kaplan (bkcruisenews@aol.com) and his lovely bride Carol for lunch. It is always a treat to visit with them. Tomorrow will also include a visit to U.S. Customs to register a new lens Bob bought so we don't get dinged for duty upon our return.

Fri, 03 Sep: This morning Carpe Diem was driven the short ten miles from Paradise Island RV to the storage unit where we prepared her for a three month hibernation. All the water tanks (fresh and not-so-fresh) were drained and flushed, the fuel tank filled with fuel stabilizer and topped off, and all vents taped to keep the critters out. See image of Carpe in storage.

We were on the way north by early afternoon and arrived at John & Eileen Frerking's home in the early afternoon. We spent the afternoon and evening at their home and enjoying their warm and generous hospitality

Sat, 05 Sep: We boarded the Amtrak Silver Star (train #92) at West Palm Beach around noon and settled into our "roomette". It was a quick thirty hours to Newark, NJ and a load of fun. The dining car fare was very tasty, and our accommodations adequate. Sleeping was problematic mostly due to the narrow beds. Next time we'll "spring" for the additional fare and reserve a larger bedroom.

Thu, 09 Sep: In New Jersey visiting family prior to boarding the Queen Mary II on Sunday. This will be our final entry to this journal. Future travels will be chronicled in other journals and/or disseminated in other ways. We'll definitely continue this journal upon our return to Florida in late November.

Till then, be well and happy...
