Durban to Venice Cruise through Suez Canal
Day 1 Leaving Durban
Up at about 7am and went to breakfast downstairs in the hotel. Then back to the room to pack up to go on the cruise which leaves today. We looked out our window and could see the ship moored at the dock, the MSC Musica. We had to check out at 10am, so we took our luggage downstairs (the lift wasn’t working so we had to carry our bags down from the 5th floor𦋙𦋙, which was quite an effort. We then went for a short walk in the town and then back at around 11am. We then caught a taxi to the port about 2km away and joined the very lengthy queue to check in. It took in total about an hour and three quarters to finally get on the ship. We went to our cabin and the steward told us we couldn’t come in until after 2pm, so we went up and had some lunch in the buffet and chatted to some people at the table. At about 4pm, they did an emergency drill where you are shown how to fit your life jacket. Then we spent some time familiarising ourselves with the ship and watched some drummers dancers on the dock as they farewelled us as the ship pulled away from the dock. Because we are on a repositioning cruise, this ship will not be back in South Africa until the end the winter. We spent a bit more time exploring, went to the library to take some books out and then back to the cabin to unpack everything and put things away for the duration of the cruise. Went to dinner, met our table companions, two very nice ladies from Canberra, had quite a few laughs. To bed at around 11:30pm. Weather fine today, breezy and mild.
