Yuck!!!

Albany Kentucky to Harrodsburg

It was a WILD RIDE! We started hitting the treasure hunting jackpot early. The weather was sunny and hot and humid – just what you would expect in Kentucky in August. Our most interesting purchase today were some vintage Las Vegas showgirl cocktail glasses with a carafe made by Spectrum. Our craziest and best purchase today was near Russell Springs. We are driving down the 127 highway and Gene spots some Corning Ware on the other side of the highway. We go up the road a short distance, turn around, and speed back. We walked up and bought an entire 6 foot table stacked with Corning Ware for $100!!! The lady even threw in 2 Rubbermaid tubs for us to use as packing containers. It took 3 containers, so we used one of ours, too. There were 50 – 60 pieces of Corning Ware and some unusual items, like 2 Corning Ware electric warming trays and an A-10-B dish with autumn leaves that I have never seen. We were so excited. Some other purchases included some vintage games, some Nintendo games, Care Bear glasses, Bug Bunny birthday glass, A&W mugs, 12 Batman mugs (the lady had them marked $5 each but she sold them to us for $2 each), R C bottle from Kentucky Derby, cobalt blue bottles (apothecary type), Chipmunk glasses, Lion dominos, homemade sweet pickles, and loads more.

The culinary delights of the day included biscuits and gravy; moon pie; peanut butter cookies; peanut butter fudge, peanut butter pie, fried apple pie rib eye steak sandwich, coleslaw (had to get our veggies into our diet), a cow tail, pork rinds, zingers – I’m not sure why I have a stomach ache tonight.

So, everyone was telling me that I had the right idea today and how smart I was to have my umbrella up to shade me from the sun. I’ll let you decide. My small umbrella that I carried looks like a large sunflower. I couldn’t figure out why the bees kept attacking me. I got stung on my ankle. As soon as I put away the umbrella – no bees – just gallons of sweat. Bees or sweat??? Tomorrow I’ll try a different umbrella.

We saw a lot of Amish people today. Gene and I both tried to get a picture of a horse and buggy – well, I’m not fast enough on the camera so you’ll see Gene’s picture of the horse & buggy, and my picture of the horse’s posterior!!! You know how Gene is everyone’s friend – well, I see him just talking and laughing away with an Amish woman. I thought, “What the heck? I can’t go anywhere without him seeing someone he knows.” Turns out the women is from Denver and just moved to Kentucky two weeks ago, so they are just talking away like they have known each other forever.

We drove on the Dam Road across the spillway of Wolf Creek Dam and saw Cumberland Park – tons of boats there and beautiful scenery.

We loved the Kentucky shopping! On to OHIO tomorrow.
