|Wed, 11 Feb: Back on the road to hugs...
After spending three plus weeks in our lease site in RoVer's Roost the "hitch itch" started getting to us. Time to roll some wheels and burn diesel. Besides, we need to be in the Inland Empire area of California by the weekend so Bob can attend a stamp show in Riverside.
Hence, we got Carpes ready and settled our electric bill at "the Roost". Just about half past eight Bob pulled onto Interstate 8 and pointed the nose west. We left I 8 in Gila Bend and took the Phoenix Bypass (US 85) north to I 10 and more west. We changed drivers at a convenient rest stop and Sandi pulled into the Pilot/Flying J truck stop in Quartzsite at noon sharp.
We topped off the diesel tank so we wouldn't have to pay California fuel prices. Diesel is almost 75¢ per gallon more in the "Golden State". We are not at all motivated to contribute to California's welfare state, so we now have enough diesel to get us back to Arizona. Today we drove 184 miles with an overall fuel economy of 8¼ mpg.
After our fuel stop we drove a short mile and a half to the Arizona Sun RV Park where we got a full service site directly across from Carmen and Domingo Davila. Normally we'd have boondocked in the desert, but the Davilas invited us to stay near them and we jumped at the opportunity.
Once we got Carpe set up we drove downtown for a late lunch with the Davilas. It was a nice café with nice sandwiches and other lunch goodies. Better than the food was the catching up we did with our good friends.
Back at the RV park we sat outside Davila's coach and whiled away the afternoon and evening kibitzing with Davilas and friends Danny & Pat Rosas. It was well after dark before we finally bade everyone good evening and retired to our coach.
In bed by ten after a long and satisfying day. Tomorrow is another road day so we were sawing wood shortly after turning off the lites.
