Yesterday we celebrated our 45th Wedding Anniversary with dinner and Cirque du Soleil at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall. Dinner at Latz's By the Bay in Somers Point was pretty good. It's in an older shore house across the street from Great Egg Harbor Bay. Cirque was good, but a little ordinary compared to some of the others we've seen. After the show we walked on the Boardwalk, got a chocolate and vanilla twist cone, and took a ride on the rolling chairs. We didn't go into any of the casinos though. We pretty much did everything you have to do when you go to Atlantic City.
Today we took a ride over to Long Beach Island. Along the way we stopped at a Stewart's Root Beer stand in Tuckerton. The for the first time in about 30 years. LBI is the same but different. It's much more crowded these days than is was when my family used to go there in the 50's and 60's, some of the same places are still there. The original Ron Jon's Surf Shop where we rented "big boards" to surf the "big" waves of the NJ coast. The old shed is still there, but the shop has been upgraded to a huge store. We drove north on the island to Barnegat Light to see the lighthouse. It was a beautiful day to be down the shore.
Since it was almost dinner time, we looked for someplace to eat. Wouldn't you know it there was a DDD right in Barneget Light. We went to Mustache Bill's Diner, but it is only open until 3:00PM. We'll have to find another reason to come to LBI earlier in the day. We wound up driving south to Beach haven and found a nice place on the bay where we watched the sun set.
We'll go home tomorrow for a few days for some doctors appointments and to play golf in the 2nd Annual Noramco Open next Tuesday before we come back to NJ for the rest of California 2.
