|SUNDAY: Elks, Tucumcari, NM
Saturday at the Campground at Sky City Casino was very relaxing. In fact, we even took a 2 hour nap. After sunset we went for a walk around the campground. Other than making a sandwich for lunch and cooking up some chili mac for dinner – we did absolutely nothing. We didn't even unhook the toad.
Sunday morning we got up about 7 and were on the road by 8:08. We planned to travel thru Albuquerque on Sunday to avoid the traffic. And did we ever. Even when I-40 crossed I-25 there wasn't anyone entering I-40. We stayed in our outside right lane as it was joined by other lanes until we were the 2nd lane from the left. Then the lanes disappeared until we were in the far right lane again. A few cars passed us but it was really quite a great trip.
On the far east side of Albuquerque I had to call 911 as there was a guy on the road tearing the reflectors off the guard wall and throwing them in traffic. SCARY!!!
We stopped for some Dairy Queen about half way. Ron tried to fix the dripping black tank valve that we just had fixed. It looks like he left some of his wrenches back at NR so wasn't able to tighten it. We will just put a bucket under it tonight and he will go to the hardware store in Tucumcari and try to fix it tomorrow. We are staying here two nights.
I was going to go swimming (the Elks here have a great pool) but there are thunder storms threatening so I'll put it off until tomorrow.
Instead, we washed up and changed out of our sweaty clothes (Ron went thru 3 shirts today) and went over to K-Bobs for steak dinner. YUM-O!!!! We both had the rib eye and they were a bit thin but cooked to perfection. Their cherry cobbler with ice cream is nothing to sneeze about either. Hey! I didn't have any lunch – I deserved a good dinner.
Anyway, like I said, we will stay here 2 nights. Mainly because the second night is free. But they raised their prices. It used to be $7 for the two nights and now it is $15. Still pretty good for good electric and water. Plus the swimming pool in season. I think this is about the 6th or 7th time we have stayed here.
Tuesday we will head northeast toward KS and spend some time there. These will be shorter trips on the red roads. Less traffic and more scenic little towns. Love to travel the heartland.
PS: About 7 pm a wind/thunderstorm came up. No rain just a lot of lightening and wind. We pulled in the slides and hoofed it over to the lodge. I would much rather be in a brick building when it is windy. We sat around and talked to the 3 customers in the bar and watched the weather icons on TV until the storm was out of the area. We had a good time except - all they had for diet soda had caffeine so when we finally came home I couldn't get to sleep until after midnight.
Anyway that is the way our lives have been going. Hope you and yours are well and happy. ENJOY!!
