Happy Father's Day to all you Dad's and I hope all of you who are not expressed the wish to your Father. My Dad is no longer with us, but we called Sue's Dad today. Shane and Jared took him out to dinner since we couldn't be there. Thanks S & J.
We left Cherry Hill this morning, and as luck (planning?) would have it we were in Woodbridge, VA at lunch time. When you are in Woodbridge and it's time to eat, there is only one place to go - Dixie Bones! I've written about it in some of my other trips and for me it's like a pilgrimage. I stop everytime I go by on I95. Unfortunately it was so crowded at lunch (buffet + Father's Day) we decided to go on to the campground (only 6 or 7 miles away)and try later for dinner. We returned at about 5:30 and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. But the wait was worth it. See the picture of my 2 meat combo.
We're staying at Pohick Bay Regional Park outside of Lorton, VA for the next 3 days. It's located about 0.5 mile from Gunston Hall, George Mason's plantation and 12 miles from Mt. Vernon where we'll be going tomorrow. We're also planning to visit the Marine Corps Museum as we travel south on Wednesday.
Checking into the campground was not without turmoil. We were originally supposed to stay in an electric only site for the night because all of the full hook-up sites were taken for the weekend. We would then move to a full hook-up site on Monday. Just after I got Winnie set up, the ranger stopped by and said that a FHU site opened up because of an emergency departure. I secured Winnie and moved over to the FHU site which is good since we won't have to move again for several days. It's a nice campground in the woods near the Potomac River. No internet available, so I have to use my iPhone as a hot-spot to update my journal. Here's hoping it won't take an hour to upload the few pictures that I have.
